Money and Laundering

Cash, clean money and BCoin, the bank account, the Laundering Desk and who to sell loot to.

Three kinds of money

Money Where from What you risk
Cash (dirty) robberies, selling loot and cargo it can be lost and stolen
Clean money (coins in a bank account) laundering cash other players can’t steal it from the account
BCoin bought on the exchange with clean money out of the feds’ reach in a confiscation

Cash pays for the Black Market and for unlocking Shipments in Larry’s Tree. Clean money is needed for clan operations: creating a clan, bets and controlling businesses, see Clans. You can withdraw clean money back into cash at city ATMs or from a bank employee, but after that the money can be lost again.

Laundering

  1. Open a bank account in Looty Bay: you can’t launder without one.
  2. Get a home of your own, see Base and Plot.
  3. Place a Laundering Desk and load dirty cash onto it: clean money arrives in your account.

Laundering keeps going when you’re offline. The desk is upgraded with Banknote Counters: the better the desk, the more money you can launder. If the laundering cable is damaged, a 50% penalty applies.

The laundering rate depends on the settlement’s level, the desk’s mods and the business your clan controls. Lenny launders money too, but takes a cut; there’s no such fee at your own base. If you live in someone else’s settlement, the owner gets a percentage of every laundering you do.

There’s also on-character laundering: it converts dirty cash to clean at a rate of 0.5 (one clean for two dirty) and holds up to 100,000 dirty.

In one take you can grab: up to 20,000 from the Laundering Desk or on-character laundering, up to 10,000 from the cargo exchanger, a settlement cash register or a cash point.

Who to sell to

  • A Fence buys stolen goods for cash. The amount depends on your Notoriety and the value of the loot.
  • The Smuggler buys cargo for cash. The amount depends on the quantity and value of the cargo; selling in bulk is riskier but more profitable. See Cargo and Production.
  • A district’s Sales Center: only those who rent a plot in that district can sell there. The sale bonus depends on the district’s level.
  • Barter behind suspicious doors in Looty Bay: trading things for Drills, keys and tools, see Barter.

Black Market and stores

The main store is the Trade Laptop (the Black Market). Its selection grows with unlocked Shipments and when you move to higher-level districts.

The city has specialized stores: gun shop, equipment, electronics, jewelry, liquor, comics and liquor, pharmacy and car parts. Prices in city stores are three times higher than on the laptop.

During a raid on your base, vendors and the Black Market are unavailable.

Roulette

The hub, Lenny’s Motel, has a roulette table: you bet chips on numbers or sectors, the more precise the guess, the bigger the win, and winning chips are exchanged for cash. The settings limit a bet to 200,000.
