How to turn reagents into crystals in your own Chemical Laboratory: the reactor, freezer and lab table step by step, what to sell and which upgrades to install.

In a Chemical Laboratory, reagents are turned into cargo with a substance. Reagents are poured into the reactor, which makes concentrate. The freezer freezes the concentrate into hard crystals, and the Lab Table crushes the crystals into powder for retail sale.

What you need

The Chemical Laboratory is a separate building at your base, so you need a house of your own first, see Base and Plot. The laboratory and all its equipment are researched in Larry’s Tree, in the “Production” branch, and bought on the Trade Laptop. The reactor and the Lab Table unlock in the tree after the laboratory, and the freezer after the reactor.

How to make crystals

  1. Find reagents. Reagent Canisters are cargo: they are found on locations and carried in your hands like any other cargo. Quality Reagents give better crystals.
  2. Pour the reagents into the reactor Chemical Reactor. The reactor works in cycles and puts out Crystalline Concentrate. Its rarity is random, and reactor upgrades raise the chance of a better one.
  3. Freeze the concentrate in the freezer Industrial Freezer. Put the concentrate in the freezer and wait until it turns into Hard Crystals.
  4. Sell the crystals or crush them. Hard crystals are worth a lot as they are, and are handed in to the Smuggler. Or put them on the Lab Table: there they are crushed into Crystalline Powder, which is sold to the Fence.

Smoke above the building gives away that the laboratory is running. If you interrupt the cooking, the cargo falls to the ground and the reagent in the reactor is lost. As with any cargo: if you draw a weapon, the cargo drops out of your hands, and a cop can seize it.

Crystals by rarity

Concentrate and crystals come in three rarities. The game data does not say how much powder one crystal gives, so it is not shown here.

Upgrades

Reactor. Better reactors run more cycles, and each cycle is shorter. Three upgrades raise the chance of high-rarity concentrate. Each has its own place, so all three can be installed together.

Freezer. Better freezers hold more concentrate: 4, 6 or 8 places. The evaporator and the refrigerant speed up freezing, and they can also be installed together.

Lab Table. Laboratory Scales are sold on the Trade Laptop and installed on the Lab Table.
